At Ynystawe well-being is at the heart of all that we do and we are passionate about promoting this to our pupils. We have invested greatly in well-being to ensure that all children are happy, healthy individuals ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.
Miss Bethan Stote provides ELSA support and runs group sessions for those pupils who need support with their wellbeing. As well as additonal well being sessions for other pupils. She has created a post box for children to post any worries, questions, queries or anything they feel they would like to share.
Mrs Sarah Scannell is our Family Liaison Officer and is available to speak to parents and families over any concerns they may have Tuesday mornings. For more information and support click here to see our Family Matters page.

Well Being Warriors ![]()
Mrs Scannell and Miss Stote have created a Well being group as part of our Pupil Voice Senedd Groups. The children have been selected to promote and support fellow peers their well being. We have set up an 'Affirmation Station' in the main school hall where children can bring positivity to themselves.

What is Emotion Coaching? Based on research by American Psychologist John Gottman, Emotion Coaching uses moments of heightened emotion and resulting behaviour to guide and teach the child and young person about more effective responses. Through empathetic engagement the child's emotional state is verbally acknowledged and validated, promoting a sense of security and feeling 'felt'. This activates changes in the child's neurological system and allows the child to calm down, physiologically and psychologically. Inappropriate behaviours are not condoned in Emotion Coaching and when the child is calmer, incidents are discussed in a more rational and productive manner. Moves are made to problem solve and engage in solution-focused strategies.
